Oscars Beauty 2010: Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah's Oscar beauty look was cerated by makeup artist D'Andre Michael.

"For Queen Latifah’s Oscar's look I decided to go with a plum smoky eye, soft mauve lip and bronzed skin. Queen Latifah's wardrobe was a beautiful, custom-designed lavender gown. I used a foundation brush to apply COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Makeup in Warm Caramel and set it with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder in Brown Bronze 1.

"For Queen Latifah's eyes, I started by applying COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder in Brown Bronze 1 to the brow bone. I do this to achieve a more natural look to the brow bone. Secondly, I used COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Purple Plume on the entire lid from the lash line to the inner crease. I then used COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke in the inner crease to blend up on the brow bone. For depth and intensity, I used COVERGIRL Outlast Smoothwear All Day Eyeliner in Onyx on the inner bottom eyelid. To give lashes the oomph that most women crave, I applied COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Waterproof Mascara in Very Black.

"For Queen Latifah's lips, I wanted to compliment the plum eye by doing a beautiful mauve lip to balance out the various purple hues of the entire look. To start I used a base coat of MAC Lipstick in Midimauve and then lined her lips with Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Deep. I recommend rubbing your lips together after lining lips to blend the line. I added luster and shine to Queen’s lips by applying a dab of COVERGIRL ShineBlast Lip Gloss in Aglow.

"To complete Queen’s look I used CARGO Blush in Siena on the apples of her cheekbones for a hint of color and glow. To complete the overall look I used COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer in Brown Bronze for a soft and subtle glow on her upper cheekbones, forehead, nose, neck and collar bone."

Oscars 2009 Beauty: Queen Latifah

For the 2009 Oscars, hairstylist Julie Baker used FHI Heat hair tools to help create a very elegant, modern chignon for her longtime client Queen Latifah.

"Latifah's dress is very elegant, modern and chic, and her hair needs to complement this, so we decided on a modern chignon which features very smooth hair, a side part, bangs that swoop down in front, a low bun in the back that is off to the side," said Baker.

To achieve this glamorous modern look, Baker dried Latifah's hair using the new FHI Heat Nano Salon Pro 2000 blow dryer, then applied FHI Heat Hot Sauce (a heat-activated conditioner that protects hair) to slightly damp hair. Last, she used her favorite FHI Heat Runway styling iron to smooth out Latifah's tresses, before styling it into a chignon.

Sam Fine's Secrets To Queen Latifah's Grammy Look

"Often clients make requests," says makeup artist Sam Fine. "Last night, Queen had one request: she wanted to look natural with wonderful skin, sparse lashes and a great brow. Most of the time was spent perfecting the canvas."

Want to get Queen Latifah's natural look? Here's how...

FACE
Use a cream foundation to give skin a supple, flawless complexion. Next, apply a bit of powder to the t-zone only. This allows the outer perimeter of the skin to glow naturally. Layer on bronzer to add a glow, then follow with a bit of blush on the apples of the cheek. "Since Queen was wearing a strapless dress, I applied a thin layer of moisturizer to her shoulders and collar bone. Then I dusted on some bronzer to make draw a bit of attention and make them shimmer," says Sam.

EYES

Apply a small amount of highlighter to underneath the brow bone. Then use the same bronzer as a shadow and sweep it lightly across the eyelids. Use a smokey black pencil liner to line the upper lid and then smudge it with a deep ebony shadow. Apply a few coats of mascara. "I used barely any eyeshadow when creating this look. Very less is more," advises Sam. " An alternative to the deep ebony shadow could be a dark navy. As always when creating an eye for an awards show or event, don't forget your false lashes."

LIPS
Line the lips with a liner that is one shade darker than your natural color. Then apply a matching shimmering lip gloss on top. Voila! "The lips were extremely nude to compliment the rest of the classic look," says Sam.
