Get The Look: Nikki Reed at Eclipse Premiere

Makeup artist Fiona Stiles created Nikki Reed's red carpet look for last night's Los Angeles premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. On her blog, Fiona writes:

"Nikki's Marchesa dress was so beautiful and feminine we went for a soft etherial look, with just a touch of girlish color on the lips. I prepped her skin with moisturizer and then a thin layer of Orlane's Eclat Absolut for a soft glow. I used a light application of foundation and a dusting of loose powder before adding a little rosy color to the cheeks, just a touch to keep it sweet. I wanted to have a light, easy eye, so I used a very light pink shadow, up just past the crease in the eye, with a little of a lavender grey over it for depth, then popped a little of the light pink into the corners of the eyes to add a little light to the face. Instead of liner I used a creamy taupe color from Ellis Faas (one of my new favorite products) near the lashes for a softer definition, then a little mascara on the top and bottom to finish it off the eyes. A matte pink lipstick gave the look an easy sweetness."

Who Is Jenn Falik?

If there was a Jeopardy-style game show with beauty categories, I’m pretty confident that I could go on a Ken Jennings-esque streak. But there’s one gal who might give me a run for my money.

Beauty savant Jenn Falik is the go-to resource for the media when it comes to learning the latest tips, trends and must-haves. From teaching her kindergarten classmates the merits of Bonne Bell Lip Balm, to spending her free time in college helping friend (and friends of friends) put together the perfect first date outfit, Jenn Falik has been a go-to for style advice pretty much since she started talking.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and taking a job on Wall Street, Jenn quickly realized that her talents were much better spent advising on clothing and makeup than consulting on credit card marketing. So she embarked on a career in fashion and beauty, as a publicist. In working with some of the most prestigious brands in the world, Jenn hones her skills at predicting and interpreting trends. It is a combination of her insider circle, her ability to dole out practical advice and her natural instinct to share everything she learns with everyone she knows, which led Jenn to become a style and beauty expert.

I recently had an opportunity to pick Jenn’s beauty-filled brain…and the girl knows her stuff. So if your beauty routine's in jeopardy (baby), read on…

SP: When did you first fall in love with beauty?
JF: When I started working in Beauty PR about 8 years ago. I always liked buying new products and playing around with makeup, but I think it became a passion (borderline obsession) once I started really learning all that goes on behind the scenes in the beauty industry, and seeing what significant differences the right beauty routine can make in a woman’s self esteem.

SP: What is your beauty philosophy?
JF: Look at your beauty routine as an extension of your personality - and stock your makeup bag with products that you love. It isn’t about the trend of the moment, it is about your interpretation of the trend of the moment that fits with your style and as such, every product you own becomes a timeless beauty staple.

SP: Any celebrity girl crushes, in terms of beauty?
JF: Kate Hudson. I love her natural California girl beauty- the beachy hair, the glowing skin.

SP: What are the five products that you can't live without right now?
JF: Stila Kitten Eyeshadow: I have been using every single day since I was in high school and don’t plan on stopping- ever.

Pond’s Clean Sweep Original Clean Wet Cleansing Towelettes: They remove every ounce of makeup - even waterproof mascara. Love waking up and not seeing makeup smeared all over my pillow!

Lipstick Queen Shine Red Sinner Gloss: Just looking at that giant tub of delicious cherry colored gloss makes me smile. It is the ultimate lip indulgence for a true beauty junkie.

Lancome PowerBoost Lash Primer: This is the perfect first step to full lashes. People always ask me if I have false lashes on- I don’t. It is a combo of this topped off with Stila MAJOR Major lash. I am not coordinated enough to put lashes on!

Priori Advanced AHA Hand & Body Revitalizing Lotion: A great daily moisturizer for this time of year to refresh and brighten skin for short summer dresses and beach days.

SP: What’s the best beauty tip/secret you’ve ever heard?
JF: I once read a tip from a celebrity makeup artist about always applying your bronzer in the shape of a 3 on each side of your face. So, you hit your forehead, cheeks and jawline evenly for a super natural looking all-over glow.

SP: What was your most embarrassing beauty moment?
JF: There were a few really bad perms in middle school, and on more than one occasion in the early 90’s I overdid the Sun In. All of my beauty mistakes have been hair-related, come to think of it. Oh, wait - I did go through a phase where I was obsessed with dewy skin and used to put way too much shimmer balm on every single day. Now I look at photos and realize I actually looked really sweaty, not gorgeously glow-ey.

SP: Which beauty trend(s) do you wish would die?
JF: Sparkly body lotion - the kind with glitter in it. Come to think of it - anything with glitter in it.

SP: What products are must-haves for summer?
JF: MISSION Skincare Fast-Drying Sunscreen SPF 30+ Spray is perfect for me because it is effortless, and I can get lazy on hot summer days. The spray is light and gives you full coverage, and it isn’t sticky at all. Plus, even when I get kinda sweaty, this stays on.

HissyFit Saving Face SPF 50. This new brand from Australia boasts an amazing tinted moisturizer with high SPF and anti-aging benefits. It is a little thicker than my usually tinted moisturizer, but I feel like that is what gives it such staying power.

DDF Pedi Cream has become part of my nightly beauty ritual- I slather it on before bed and throw on socks in an effort to have somewhat smooth heels for summer sandals.

Essie Polish in Lovie Dovie is going to be by go-to shade this summer because it goes seamlessly from the beach to a black tie wedding- just bright enough to be exciting, but not too bright so as to be distracting.

June Jacobs After Sun Hydrator is the perfect post-sun product, and even though I don’t lay out, I use it after being outside too long at the never ending series of outdoor summer weddings I seem to be attending. It refreshes my skin, hydrates and, best part, helps prolong the life of your tan.

GO SMiLE Touch Ups are my secret weapon against pigging out this summer. I have somewhat of an insatiable appetite, and that is a killer when it comes to swimsuit season. So, after eating, I use one of these and my mouth feels so clean and minty, I have no interest in going back for seconds. Plus, it polishes my teeth so they make my itty-bitty hint of bronze look that much more tawny.

SP: If you could only patronize one beauty brand for life, which would it be?
JF: Stila. I love everything about it. The products, the packaging, everything. I always say if I was re-incarnated as a makeup brand, I would be Stila. Me and my girl, Amber, are beauty addicts…which means that product monogamy is not within our nature. We need beauty options like our lungs need air.

So to celebrate product polygamy, we’ve decided to do another theme week…we know how you so enjoy when we get crazy creative. In honor of this Sunday’s season premiere of Big Love, Amber and I will be assigning our favorite products Barb, Nicki, and Margene status. In case you don’t watch the show or have HBO, here’s the 411:


Barb is the original. She’s your first love - the one everything else is measured against. Nicki is the newer, fiesty version that caused your eye to stray; the Nicki relationship is entertaining and dramatic, but short-lived. Margene is the shiny-new toy that you can‘t get enough of and sets your heart aflutter.

The Barb: Clinique Superfit Makeup
I’m a big fan of Clinique’s foundations, and I’ve been wearing Superfit for years. At $20, it’s reasonably priced and one bottle lasts a long time. Give this oil-free formula a try if you’ve got overactive sebaceous glands; it’s comfortable, breathable and keeps the shine gremlins at bay, all day. Superfit is basically the only foundation I’ll wear in the summertime.

The Nicki: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Before my 2007 wedding, I searched long and hard for the foundation that would make my imperfect complexion look flawless. My skin tone is hard to match, my face is a grease bomb in the warmer months, and I have sensitive skin - and finding a foundation that would overcome all of those hurdles was proving as hopeless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie. Then I found Luminous Silk. It’s weightless and goes on like a dream, and made me look like I wasn’t wearing a thing. It’s pricey and it’s not sold in many stores (I had to trek to Saks to get my hands on a bottle) - but if you don’t mind putting in a little extra money and effort, Luminous Silk is a fab foundation.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the end all - be all foundation. My skin is far from flawless, so I need a good base - or I’m not happy. When I’m wearing a good foundation, I feel more confident…kinda like when I wear my trusty Spanx under a form-fitting dress. From far away or up close, HD Invisible Cover Foundation looks like perfection on skin. It imparts this airbrushed look that you just don’t get with any other product. MASCARA
The Barb: CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara
Doe eyes from the drugstore - that’s Lash Blast, in a sentence. The big fatty wand does take some getting used to, and you need a little elbow grease getting it off at the end of the day. But if you want to pump up the volume while keeping your wallet fat, you can’t go wrong with the orange tube.

The Nicki: Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara
Wanna take your lashes up, up and away? Well, let me introduce you to Exceptionnel de Chanel Intense Volume and Curl Mascara. I feel so brazen when I'm wearing this; the six sided brush delivers a voluptuous and dramatic lash - with no clumping whatsoever. Seriously, no clumps. Try to make it clump…I dare ya.

The Margene: Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara
The spiky round sphere on the tip of Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara is scary, even to a been-there-done-that beauty blogger like moi. But with a little practice, you’ll be amazed at the wand’s dexterity. It allows you to get into all of the nooks and crannies that typical brushes miss. It curls. It separates. It coats lashes in inky goodness, resulting in striking, fanned-out fringe.


EYELINER
The Barb: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil
You know how I love me some Urban Decay. The website bills these babies as “the best eye pencils ever, ever, ever.” It’s truth…every word of it. If you don’t own at least one of these liners by now, what are you doing? Are you just reading Spoiled Pretty for the hell of it? I’m trying to help you, people. In these trying economic times, a woman needs an eyeliner that she can depend on. And this one, my friends, is as good as it gets.

The Nicki: Redpoint StayPut Eyeliner in Conga
Last Spring, I was introduced to this delightful little liner at the Total Beauty Blog Community Summit. For a few months afterwards, it was my go-to eye pencil. You’ll love it too, thanks to the long-wearing, water-resistant, never-smudge formula. And the metallic mocha color is oh so flattering on everyone!

The Margene: MAC Pearlglide Eye Liner in Black Russian
Do yourself a favor and go buy MAC Pearlglide Eye Liner in Black Russian. It don’t get no better. This creamy, kohl-like liner has a heavy metal look with the perfect amount of sparkle. Black Russian, described as black with navy blue glitter, is so super chic that it - in the immortal words of Marvin Gaye - “makes me wanna holler, throw up both my hands.” Hallelujah, MAC!


LIPSTICK/GLOSS
The Barb: Stila Lip Glaze in Blackberry
I’ve bought more tubes of Stila Lip Glaze in Blackberry than any other lipgloss - and I own ten times more glosses than your most makeup obsessed friend. As I type this, I have a tube of Blackberry - still in the box - stashed away in my Sephora train case, just waiting in the wings until the current tube runs dry. That’s how dangerously sexy this product looks on my lips. But why should I have all the fun? Pick some up during your next Sephora shopping excursion.

The Nicki: MAC Plushglass in Oversexed
MAC makes a million lipglosses, and they’re all wonderful. But Plushglass in Oversexed is GD genius. I love the scandalous name, but I absolutely luvre the me-but-sexier look. In the tube, it looks like a dark wine. But don’t be afraid. On lips, it transforms into the most beautiful blush - with megawatt shine. It’s just so sexy on. It’s like the Scarlett Johansson of lippies.

The Margene: Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in Wine
My new shiny toy, these days, isn’t shiny at all. Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in Wine is my secret weapon for looking polished and pulled together, even when I’ve overslept and run out the door without a stitch of makeup. The sheer matte berry shade is effortless and flattering, but doesn’t dry the lips. It’s snow bunny in a tube.
